You must have heard that “an untreated cold lasts seven days; a treated cold can be cured in a week”. Since this time of the year it’s hard to avoid a cold, you should be prepared for spending one week this winter in the house, without the energy to finish up a project or work from bed. It will be the time to regain strength and be a bit lazy, but luckily it doesn’t mean you’ll have to be bored.
When you have a cold, you feel aches and pains in different parts of the body, you don’t feel like getting up but you’re thirsty, you’re sweating but you’re chilly at the same time. That’s why you have to be prepared for the whole lonely day. In the morning, take a quick shower while the sheets get some air. Instead of putting on pajamas and three sweaters over it, think of using your cycling apparel that keeps you dry and wear cotton top and pants over it. Make lots of tea with lemon and honey and pour it in a thermos, prepare a couple of sandwiches and set up a small buffet on your nightstand so you don’t have to get up every time your cup gets empty.
Your bed is your safety, so gather on it everything you may need, like a couple of books and magazines, all the remotes, your notebook with webcam, a selection of DVDs, some cat toys and most importantly tissues and medication. Prepared like that you can sleep, watch a movie, catch up on your reading or stare in the ceiling while listening to your favorite album and get well instead of getting more and more exhausted every time you need to blow your nose, get a new magazine or search for the remote.
