It’s impossible to live by the X Files rule to trust no one, but at the same time trusting everyone with everything is not a smart choice either. It’s best if you apply some limits to your trust, resolve your trust issues and basically have limited trust with the limits moving one way or another depending on a particular person.

At home you have to trust your family that they will be good to one another, that your spouse will take care of you just as much as you take care of them, that the kids will act responsibly when left home alone and that your dog won’t chew on your favorite shoes, because if you didn’t, you would be a nervous wreck. You have that trust, but just in case you don’t leave your pen tablet where the animals could throw it off, you don’t believe your kids won’t ever fight or that your spouse will always think of you first.

Work is a place where you have to trust that your bosses know what they’re doing, that your coworkers are doing as much as you do and tat your subordinates don’t see your mistakes to use them against you. But regardless of whether you’re working for a Chicago veterinary clinic or a computer repair Miami firm, you know that trusting in the best but believing in the worst is your best option, or otherwise you may be one day surprised and not in a good way.
