In your job there is probably that one tool, one piece of equipment you have to use every day and towards the end of the week you’re most likely sick and tired of it. It’s no problem if it’s something you never use at home or have no need even looking at outside of work, but if you could benefit from utilizing a specific item in your free time, it may be frustrating as it reminds you of work you try to take a rest from. Your first instinct is to put the tool away and postpone your house project, but that’s a no win situation.
If you run a web design firm and can’t look at a graphics tablet or your PC, if you’re an accountant and can’t stand using a calculator, if you’re a DJ and love music but are tired of preparing play lists, you’re not alone. The thing is you can’t avoid sitting at your computer to send out some e-mails, to calculate your family’s budget and expenses or to prepare a list of songs to play at your house party or romantic dinner.
To get over your hatred or boredom, separate your job from your private life by telling yourself that what you do at work is for money, but what you do at home is for yourself. And because you do things for yourself, they are more fun and important, so there is no way to not do them. And since you have to get those things done, you might as well d them fast and efficient, meaning using the tools of your trade tat you’re good at. And if you truly hate sitting down to your professional equipment, maybe it’s time to think of a job change, because obviously you don’t like what you do, at least not in the place you’re in.
