There is no success without a bit of luck and a lot of hard work. But if you’re overworked, instead of cherishing your success you’re just tired and worried how to keep the business going, how to make more money so things get easier, how to find time to spend with family and friends. It may sound strange, but all you have to do is take a step back and have some fun, and you’ll quickly rediscover the pleasure in what you do.
Spending long hours at your desk dealing with one customer after another, or standing behind the counter of your specialty store, will definitely leave you physically aching, so get up, get down, twist and turn, play some music you can dance to or make a mid-day run to the gym or the pool to change position, loosen your muscles and clear your head even if it’s just for a minute.
When you work on one project for a long time like putting together a wedding that’s months away, or have a job that requires you to come up with new ideas every day like when you write for an online magazine or you’re in web design, at one point you will notice your mind is completely blank, there are absolutely no ideas or solutions you need right away. It’s going to happen unless you take care of your mind and let it relax. Play a video game, do crossword puzzle, grab a coloring book and get creative s you can come back to your task with a fresh mind.
If you’re worried about playing games or exercising being a waste of time and would rather get the job done first and have some fun later, consider a change of scenery. Take your laptop or graphics tablet out to the park or your favorite coffee house and let the fresh scenery, different noises and scents inspire you to finish your job. Leaving the four walls of your office behind will free your mind to explore new possibilities and chances are you’ll get done faster and the result will be more creative.
Everybody will tell you work is a serious thing, after all you do it to pay the bills, put food on the table, dress your family and hopefully take them on vacation every now and then. But you can do all that and enjoy what you do as well, so don’t be afraid to sing when you fix a car, to dance in the elevator on the way to a meeting or to jump head first in the pool when you have to think through a new interior design.
