Whether you’re in charge of company newsletter or website, you’re partially responsible for the way the business is viewed by the employees and most importantly clients. You have to make sure that the pictures are good quality, the texts are written in a coherent, clear manner and that there are no spelling or factual mistakes. But even the best looking web design or newsletter is worth nothing without good content.
You certainly don’t want to solve issues or stir controversy; your role is to show the positives, so if the company is involved in any charities, community drives, has a new product or service that will help people out, that’s the kind of things you definitely want to write about. Don’t be afraid that positive PR news may be seen as trying to sell the right image. As long as you stick to the truth, presenting all kinds of good sides of the company is a thing to do.
Focus on employees is also a good way to present the company. Whether you do a series of individual portraits, focus on different positions or write about executive training, make sure that the people described are aware of the material you’ll be publishing and that they are okay with it. If you’re going to include photographs, try to involve them during selection s that they have the final say as to which picture is published.
You can talk about people, products and services and as long as you do it in a nice, interesting way and update consistently, both employees and outsiders will reach for the newsletter or go online to see what is currently happening at the company. And the more people check it out, the more the word will spread about the company bringing in more interest and new clients, which is one of the reasons to even bother and care for what’s published.
