I am sure every fashionista has in her closet at least one pair of skinny jeans and some leggings. I ask, why not combine these most popular items of the last few seasons, and get a pair of jeggings? Sure, you might think the name is silly, but you will change your mind the moment you try them on.
Skinny jeans are great with high heels, leggings are perfect under cute tunics or short dresses. Unfortunately, they are both missing something. Leggings have no support in the thigh or behind area, and have no pockets, so you have to carry a purse and you most likely cover yourself down to your knees. Skinny jeans on the other hand are, well, jeans, so on those less skinny days you might feel like you need to squeeze in them.
Fortunately, the days you had to drop your favorite look because of a silly problem like that are over. Now all you need to do is get yourself a pair of jeggings and you will be stylish running to the corner bakery for some doughnuts, and comfortable eating them too. These skinny wonders have pockets and a zipper, just like every regular pair of jeans, but they stretch to your shape more like leggings, yet holding a bit in the areas most women call problematic.
For those of you who just now are shaking their heads thinking these are good only for skinny models, I advise a trip to the nearest mall, to your favorite department store, and doing an experiment. Take a walk around the store and pick up a cute sweater, a tunic or two, a wide belt in great color, and a pair of heels. Then pick a pair of dark jeggings, go to the nearest dressing room and have some fun.
Forget about what you think and what you heard, just trust the way you feel. Put on the tunic and the jeggings, buckle the heels and wrap the belt around your waist. Look in the mirror, and if you are like me, you will think that it is the light of the dressing room and the mirror itself that change your figure to make you look taller and slimmer. But it is not.
The reason I know that is because I did not buy my jeggings, I got them from a friend of mine who knew I would never go there. To be on the safe side, she went with a dark, uniform wash. When she gave them to me, she forced me to put them on with my beloved tunic and chunky heels, and I had my own “mirror, mirror on the wall” moment. My mirror did not lie in the past, and it told the truth now. I looked great. I felt taller and skinnier, and most definitely fashion savvy.
So stop hiding in those baggy boyfriend jeans and all too long sweaters. If you read fashion magazines and dream of being like one of the girls you see there, just look at yourself, believe you are beautiful, put on your perfectly accessorized new jeggings, call the girls and go out. Having fun with fashion is just a step on the way to having fun in life.
