Resources for teachers - Lesson plans

Dear Teacher, Don’t Bore Me

Times are changing, and so is our life. I used to think that going to school was boring, because teachers would simply read material from a book or their notes, give quizzes and homework, the end. Not anymore. Modern teachers can inspire their students, can present interesting information, can conduct the classes in much more fun way. And all that thanks to endless resources available to teachers.

It takes passion to teach others, but it doesn’t hurt to have support of others, more experienced and knowledgeable professionals. Whether someone is a seasoned educator or a brand new teacher, everybody now has access to materials that make teachers’ work easier, and students’ time in class more fulfilling.

Resources for teachers include things from lesson plans to model lessons, from suggested websites to specific articles, from self-courses to expert answers. Self improvement allows all teachers, the young and the older ones, to be up to date with today’s world, to follow changes and inventions in their field, to find ways to keep students interested. Sitting down to a quick course or chatting with an expert lets them open up to new ideas, and therefore opens them up to their students’ unconventional thinking.

For newly minted teachers, resources such as lesson plans are a good base for their future self-prepared classes, it allows them to use a well-working pattern and make it into their own. Experienced educators might want to use such plans if they feel like switching things around a bit, surprising their students with a new routine, having fun with their standard behavior.

Since the world is changing and many fields are developing, teachers have to be up to date with the news if they want to be able to keep their students’ attention. That is why they should reach for teachers’ resources such as topic websites and articles, which give them not only necessary knowledge, but also a way to reach the kids. Sharing for example website address in class makes students realize that even though they are older, the teachers live in the same world. And just maybe a student, who spends hours in front of a computer, will be curious enough to follow their teacher’s suggestion and find out new things on the internet.

Seems any resources for teachers may be used more than one way. Sure, thanks to them teachers can develop their skills, improve their style, keep up with the news. But a teacher utilizing all kinds of different resources, can also share them with students, therefore keeping the kids interested in class, but also mobilizing them to find knowledge on their own, in the world outside the school walls.

Good resources don’t do everything for the teachers. Good resources are more like a map, they show the educators the way to more fun, more interesting, more instructing lessons. Any teacher, who was bored in classes in their own student times, should consider why, and what could have been done to avoid it. Following that trace, they should combine their own experiences with the teachers’ resources available to them, thus creating unforgettable experience for, among others, future educators.
